Friday, October 21, 2005 Chicago's Field Museum unveis its Pompei collection. Don't miss the casts. @ 01:45 PM CST [Link] Eye widening surgery. No, it doesn't make you look surprised, just more Western. Revealing before and after photos of Japanese pop-star here. @ 01:44 PM CST [Link] Wednesday, October 19, 2005 Einstein speaks! Wow, I've never heard his voice before. He has a strong german accent. @ 09:11 PM CST [Link] He believes the nanobomb holds great promise as a therapeutic agent for killing cancer cells, with particular emphasis on breast cancer cells, because its shockwave kills the cancerous cells as well as the biological pathways that carry instructions to generate additional cancerous cells and the small veins that nourish the diseased cells. Also, it can be spread over a wide area to create structural damage to the cancer cells that are close by. @ 09:03 PM CST [Link]
Neat lego back to the future delorean. @ 08:58 PM CST [Link] Borged Art over at worth1000 today. "Dream Weaver" is my favorite, its got that great retrofuturism motif going along with a Waterhouse figure.
@ 08:53 PM CST [Link] Redesigned my fugly ad blocking site. Its much cleaner now and doesn't scream 1999 anymore. @ 08:32 PM CST [Link] Monday, October 17, 2005 Third party sells 600mAh battery for iPods. This is very tempting. It essentially doubles the battery life of the iPod. Installation doesn't look easy though. Reviews are positive too. Also: Photo blog of taking a mini apart and replacing the battery. @ 08:43 PM CST [Link] Magazine editors pick top 40 magazine covers. Lots of goodies here. I'm not surprised by number one, but some of the others don't seem very deserving.
Update: Looks like they pulled it. A press release with a few covers is here. @ 08:32 PM CST [Link] I fail to understand why A History of Violence is getting such rave reivews. Its 90% something over at rottentomatoes.com. Its not weird like most Cronenberg films and is a fairly straightforward mobster movie. Not to mention the fighting is almost at the ninja-level with the hero able to take a bullet or two and still pull off martial-arts level chops. Mike Ward puts it best I think: Director David Cronenberg's "A History of Violence" has no real heroes, no real lessons and no real resolution. Because of that, it leaves a lingering sense of "huh?" And it leaves you looking for a bar of soap afterward. @ 08:21 PM CST [Link] New Mr Wiggles. New PBF too. Cat and Girl on growing old. @ 01:35 AM CST [Link] Abiword now has a grammar checker. Okay, so Microsoft Office has had this feature for over five years, but its nice to see it in free software. Especially considering you just can't "borrow" an Office CD anymore thanks to registration. I may start using Abiword more often now. My Office 2000 installation is just getting old. @ 01:26 AM CST [Link] City of Villains to have persistant bases. Neato. One of the most intriguing aspects is its base-building gameplay. Essentially, a "supergroup" (a group of player characters that belong to an in-game organization, much like a "guild" in other online games) can consolidate its funds and purchase an in-game headquarters building. At launch, you'll be able to build bases that are only one story tall, though Cryptic may consider adding multistory bases at a later time. Fortunately, those who purchase and install City of Villains in addition to their City of Heroes account will also be able to build supergroup bases for their virtuous do-gooders in Paragon City. There are also some excellent looking screenshots. If I was 12 years old I'd be losing my shit over how cool this scene is. This one must be from the Scooby-Doo expansion pack or something. Guess the gender! Inside of a base. Calling HR Giger's lawyers. @ 01:22 AM CST [Link] [Archives] Search entries: |
