Saturday, August 20, 2005 Crazy Robocop art gallery. All of it made with a MS Paint-like web tool. Its strangely impressive in that "someone's oddball labor of love" kind of way.
@ 07:29 PM CST [Link] Trailer for A Scanner Darkly out. Oh wow, this looks amazing. ASD is one of my favorite books, I hope they did a good job. Keanu Reeves is in this, I guess he has a thing for sci-fi, so I'm expecting lots of comments on how this is similiar to the matrix. Actually, the Matrix borrows heavilty from lots of sci-fi fare like the brain in a vat scenario, man vs. machine, etc. It looks like he's playing Bob Arctor, which is fine, as that character is a pretty passive and semi-boring guy to begin with. The casting looks pretty solid. Robert Downey Jr. as the crazed Barris, Woody Harrelson as the stoner Luckman, and Winona Ryder as love interest Donna.
The official site is here, but you need to navigate to it because flash and flash designers mostly suck. @ 07:22 PM CST [Link] Friday, August 19, 2005 Sappy post-modern futurism from the onion this week. Just makes you wanna say "Awwww."
@ 06:04 PM CST [Link] The Doughnut shaped time machine. It should be possible to travel back to any point in time after the time machine was built. Exactly how to generate a gravitational doughnut is not covered in the paper, but Ori has suggestions. "It's wild speculation, but you may need to move large masses rapidly in a circular motion," Ori says.By large, I think he means something on the scale of multiple galaxies. @ 06:01 PM CST [Link] W1K today. I have no words for this picture. Its just perfect.
@ 05:57 PM CST [Link] Tuesday, August 16, 2005 And they say the patent system is broken. Where else can you get innovation like this? Seriously, this involves about four different types of crazy to come up with, let alone patent. I blame all the high-quality sixties acid. APPARATUS FOR FACILITATING THE BIRTH OF A CHILD BY CENTRIGUGAL FORCE
@ 07:52 PM CST [Link] When deals attack. Funny, I remember reading about this sale at one of those deal sites a month ago and thinking this could only end badly. It better work out @ 07:49 PM CST [Link] The Nintendogs marketing campaign has begun. I hear it leaves large yellow puddles when stopped at red lights. @ 07:39 PM CST [Link] Horror film slashers with real jobs. Some of these are very funny.
@ 07:36 PM CST [Link] "I don't know what the milk will be like after this." Also: Prince of Pot in extradition trouble. @ 07:28 PM CST [Link] Sunday, August 14, 2005 Consumer reports gallery from the 60s. Lots of goodies here.
@ 08:59 PM CST [Link] Worth1K: Cubed. Nice gallery. Isn't this the vehicle from Lost in Space?
@ 08:50 PM CST [Link] McSweeney's reading in Chicago this Monday. Sounds like fun, I'll probably stop by. @ 08:41 PM CST [Link] AlternaWorld: Fox News during the civil rights movement. HuffPo writers having a little fun here: O’Reilly: “To question the government of Alabama and implicitly the entire United States government by defying the political order like this has to be considered treasonous. Civil disobedience is a code word for I hate America. These people are criminals, simple criminals. It's ridiculous that they think they don't have to live by the same rules as the rest of us.” @ 08:39 PM CST [Link] [Archives] Search entries: |
