When he isn't trying to figure out if its faster to swim in syrup than in water, he's experimenting on himself with an artificial gill. Gotta love his Yogi Berra-esque quote, "I felt fine until I passed out." The swimming in syrup experiment won him an Ig Nobel award in 2005. In 2024 his gill experiment will be the basis for the 'Aquaman Envy' theory of abnormal psychiatry. Doesn't 'Swimming in Syrup' sound like some love-story vehicle for some famous actress? Starring Olympia Dukakis, Burt Reynolds, Shirley Maclaine, and Jon Lovitz. And Julianne Moore as the marriage counselor.
