[Previous entry: "Changing sleep patterns may mean early death."] [Main Index] [Next entry: "And he rolls...."] 04/24/2005 Entry: "The Hubble space telescope turns 15" The Hubble space telescope turns 15. Space.com has the story, a couple new photos, and a nice little gallery. Its kinda odd how beautiful these photos look. Why does space look so aesthetically pleasing to us? Probably because celestial objects share the same characteristics of things we consider good looking like symmetry, colorful, etc. What's even more fun is staring into nebula photos and letting your mind wander just a bit and suddenly faces and other everyday things appear, like they did when I laid down in the grass and stared at clouds as a kid. I never saw the elephant, but I got an Abe Lincoln or two (thats what happens when you grow up in Illinois). The fractal patterns of nebula generate that same mental trick/illusion. Also, the Hubble is expected to live a couple more years. See also: Gallery of bad-ass pizza cutters. Yeah, that's right, pizza cutters have 'tude now.
