The Mozilla foundation quietly releases the Firefox 1.0 release candidate. They are planning to release the final version of 1.0 on the 9th. You can download the RC here. I hope they fixed that damn pop-up crash bug they introduced in the last version. Update: Okay, I installed it and played with it. Lets start with the good: The find box has a little 'x' so you can easily close it. Previously, you had to click in the input box to regain focus and hit the escape button. Some nicer icons have been added. The RSS icon is gone and replaced with a much nicer abstract graphic. The pop-up crash bug seems to have been fixed. It feels faster, but without a proper test I can't really say. And the bad: There is now a "Go" button between the URL box and the search box. Its green, ugly, and really not needed. It can be dragged away if you perform an View>Toolbars>Customize There is now a line underneath the tabs. It sticks out like a sore thumb. In fact, its visually annoying. There is still no way to import cookies from a file. Just a generic "import from IE, Mozilla, or Opera" wizard. If an image is too large to display in a pop-up box there is no way to scroll vertically or horizontally. Actually, you can control the vertical with a scroll mouse. Still, scroll bars shoud be appearing with javascript pop-up boxes. Still, this is mostly nit-picking. Its still the best browser out there, by far.
